- Ensure the engine is off and the propeller is still before boarding or disembarking.
- Establish clear communication with divers and swimmers.
For Divers:
- Create an emergency action plan for responding to boat or propeller injuries.
- Communicate clearly with the boat operator.
- Use diver down flags and surface markers to signal your position.
- Remain clear of the propeller at all times, even when it’s not moving.

To become a Boat Diver, you need to meet the following prerequisites:

Open Water Diver Certification: If you’ve just earned your Open Water Diver certification, you’re trained to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters (60 feet). To dive deeper, consider taking the Advanced Open Water Diver and/or the Deep Diver Specialty courses.
CPR and First Aid Training: Ensure you have CPR and First Aid training within the past 24 months.
