Explore the Depths with the Cavern Diver Specialty Course

Caverns are found in various locations where scuba divers explore, from freshwater springs to volcanic island walls and limestone coasts.

These large, dark spaces are incredibly inviting but can be potentially dangerous.

The Cavern Diver Specialty course equips you with the knowledge and skills to explore caverns safely.

This course allows you to venture far enough for an adventure while staying within the light zone for an easy exit to open water.

Cavern Diver Course Requirements and Enrollment

To enroll in the Cavern Diver course, you must be an Advanced Open Water Diver and at least 18 years old.

Visit our diving Center to sign up and schedule your first class session with an expert Instructor.

Cavern Diver Course Structure and Skills

Ready for a challenge? The course includes four scuba dives.

The first dive focuses on line handling, reel use, and emergency procedures outside a cavern.

The next three dives allow you to apply your new skills inside a cave.

You will learn about:

  • Specialized Equipment: Along with your basic scuba gear, you’ll need a primary dive light, a smaller backup light, and a line and reel. Your instructor may suggest additional gear suitable for cavern diving, such as a collapsible snorkel or other technical diving equipment.
  • Safety Techniques: Avoiding disorientation, anti-silting techniques, and emergency procedures specific to cavern diving.
  • Dive Planning: Depth and distance limits, air management, and other essential planning aspects for safe cavern diving.
