Rebreather Diver Course for Recreational Diving

Once exclusive to technical diving, Rebreathers are now accessible for recreational divers.

The new Type R rebreathers are lightweight, portable, and equipped with advanced electronics for ease of use.

Benefits of diving with a rebreather include extended no-stop limits, reduced gas consumption, and quieter underwater experiences, enhancing wildlife encounters.

Rebreather Diver Course

The Rebreather Diver course allows divers to explore rebreather diving up to 18 meters (60 feet).

To enroll, divers must meet specific prerequisites, which may include certifications from other recognized training organizations.

Rebreather Diver Course Requirements:

  1. Age: You must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Certification: You need to be a certified Advanced Open Water Diver and have completed the Enriched Air Diver course.
  3. Experience: A minimum of 25 logged dives, with at least 10 dives using enriched air nitrox.

These requirements ensure you’re well-prepared for the exciting world of rebreather diving! 🤿🌊

Equipment Requirements

Divers should have their mask, fins, and exposure suits.

A Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) and reel are also necessary.

The instructor will guide on the specific Type R rebreather used in training.

What You’ll Learn

  1. Rebreather Mechanics: Understand how rebreathers work, including gas circulation, scrubbers, and loop systems.
  2. Setup and Maintenance: Learn to assemble, configure, and maintain your rebreather equipment.
  3. Skills Practice: Develop essential skills specific to rebreather diving, such as buoyancy control, emergency procedures, and gas management.
  4. Dive Planning: Explore dive planning considerations unique to rebreathers, including gas consumption rates and decompression planning.

Remember, this course opens up exciting opportunities for extended dive times and quieter underwater experiences! 🤿🌊

How long does it take to complete the Rebreather Diver certification?
The Rebreather Diver certification typically takes 2-3 days to complete. During this time, you’ll cover theory, practice skills, and complete dives using a rebreather. It’s an exciting step toward extended dive times and quieter underwater experiences! 🤿🌊
Can I upgrade from Rebreather Diver to Advanced Rebreather Diver later?
Yes you can upgrade from Rebreather Diver to the Advanced Rebreather Diver certification. The Advanced Rebreather Diver course builds upon the foundational skills learned in the Rebreather Diver course. It delves deeper into rebreather technology, gas management, and advanced diving scenarios. Enjoy your continued exploration of the underwater world! 🤿🌊
Are there any specific safety guidelines for using a rebreather during dives?
Yes, when using a rebreather for dives, follow these safety guidelines:
  1. Training: Complete a certified rebreather course to learn proper usage, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
  2. Pre-Dive Checks:
    • Verify gas levels, sensors, and loop integrity.
    • Confirm the rebreather is properly assembled and functioning.
  3. Buoyancy Control:
    • Maintain neutral buoyancy to prevent inadvertent ascent or descent.
    • Monitor buoyancy changes during ascent and descent.
  4. Monitoring:
    • Continuously monitor oxygen levels, depth, and decompression status.
    • Be aware of potential hazards (e.g., hypoxia, hyperoxia).
  5. Emergency Procedures:
    • Practice bailout procedures (switching to open circuit) regularly.
    • Know how to handle sensor failures, leaks, and other emergencies.
  6. Gas Management:
    • Plan for adequate gas supply, including bailout gas.
    • Avoid rapid ascents to prevent oxygen toxicity.
Remember, rebreathers offer extended dive times but require diligence and awareness.
